Trekking in the Alay Mountains: Tulpar-Kol-Sary-Mogol Pass – Kosh-Moinok – Sary-Bell – Kojo-Kelen and Osh

This multi-day trek offers an unforgettable journey through the Alay Mountains, traversing rugged passes, remote valleys, and traditional villages. Along the way, trekkers are treated to sweeping vistas, wild alpine landscapes, and rich cultural experiences.

Short itinerary:

  • Day1. Start from Osh to Tulpar Kol lake
  • Day 2. Walk to traveler’s pass 4140m (6hours total walking)
  • Day 3. Tulpar Kol- through Tuyuk canyon to Sary-Mogol (6hours walking 1h30min driving)
  • Day 4. Sary-Mogol to Trekking north Sary-Mogol
  • Day 5. Сamp of Sary-Mogol to Koshmoinok (6hours)
  • Day 6. Koshmoinok to Kojo-Kelen village (6hours)
  • Day7. Arrive back to Osh (3h 30min)

Day1. Osh-Alay

Start from Osh (airport, Dostuk border or a hotel) to Sary-Mogol (230km 4-6hours driving)

Departure from Osh, in the morning on the way do several stop for nice view of photos as possible as visit the lake Kolduk ( 5km from the highway) forward driving to stop point of Gegige lake (walking 2 house up and down)
Arrive in Sary-Mogol. Check in the guesthouse.

Day2. Tulpar Kol lake- Travel pass –Tulpar Kol (6-7 hours walking)

After breakfast, Our driver takes you to yurt camp (1hour driving). Start walking from Tulpar Kol yurt camp,leave the heavy bags in yurt. This walk-up to the Travellers’ Pass of Lenin Peak or just until the best view of onion glade, it offers a challenging yet rewarding adventure through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Central Asia. Make sure to pack appropriately, including sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, and lunch-box for the journey. Begin the Trek: Once acclimatized, start your trek towards the Travelers’ Pass. The trail winds its way through rugged terrain, passing by glacial streams, rocky slopes, and alpine meadows. It started from Tulpar-Kol and time of reaching is 7 hours (go and back) the altitude is 4120m. This involves taking short hikes to higher elevations and allowing your body to adjust to the thin air. Return Journey: After enjoying the views, begin your descent back to the base camp. Take it slow on the way down to prevent injuries and enjoy the scenery once again from a different perspective. lunch then come back to yurt with same route for overnight in yurt.

Day3. Tulpar Kol- Tuiyuk- Sary-Mogol (6hours walking 1h30min driving )

Tulpar-Köl – via panoramic view of Tuyuk

This route offers some of the most incredible scenery with views of about 40 lakes. You will also see a breathtaking view of the entire Alai Valley. For those unable to climb higher altitudes, an alternative path leads through the lower parts, following roads to the shepherd’s yurt in the Tuyuk Canyon. From there, enjoy a short walk to the charming view of the canyon and the snow-capped peaks of Pik Latvia (6,218 m) and Pik Estonia (6,202 m).The panoramic peak is at 4100 meters above sea level, and the peak itself, from which you can see the entire Tulpar-Kol lake, is at 4080 meters. The vertical position is not very steep, but you will have to climb to 3375 meters (without equipment) then descend to 6700 meters to the main canyon, and after lunch the hiking continues to Kashar (shepherd’s hut), From there, you’ll be picked up by car and returned to Sary-Mogol.

Day4. Sary-Mogol village to Sary-Mogol camp

We go by car (1h) to trailhead then trekking starts it is going to be bit taught trek because we go up to the pass called Sary-Mogol pass and Besh-Kol lake. Our daily route takes for 6-8 hours of walking up in rocky path. At the top of the pass we enjoy the stunning scenery of Besh-Kol lakes. Then keeping the way to other side until the yurt camp. The Sary-Mogol Pass and Besh Kol Lakes are located in the Alay region of southwestern Kyrgyzstan, on the north of Sary-Mogol. This area is known for its stunning mountain landscapes, high-altitude lakes, and trekking opportunities. Here’s a glimpse at what you might expect when visiting the Sary-Mogol Pass and Lakes:
Sary-Mogol Pass: The Sary-Mogol Pass is a high mountain pass that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and
valleys. It’s a popular trekking route for adventurers exploring the Alay region. The pass sits at an elevation of around 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, so be prepared for high-altitude conditions and variable weather.

Day5. Yurt camp of Sary-Mogol to Koshmoinok (6hours)

Head east following the river and slightly descending to the end of the beautiful mountain gorge. Enjoy
grandiose views of the Kichik Alay or Trans Alay mountain range, at first we cross a small villages small Sary-Mogol further direction a small village Kyzyl-Shoro and stop here for lunch in home stay or at a café somewhere here then forward go on to yurt camp in Koshmoinok.

Day6. Koshmoinok to Kojo-Kelen village (6hours)

We will begin next day of the trek on the slopes of the beautiful Cretaceous mountains of Kichik-Alay, straightaway we cross the pass of Sary-Bel (3150m) stunning rocks, amazing view of natural creation and go down to the guesthouse in the Kozho-Kelen village. overnight in home stay.

Day7. Arrive to Osh (transfer until to airport, borders or hotel, 3 hours driving)

After breakfast visit on waterfall and Blue grotto after the short hiking, drive to Osh. Along the road you can see an exotic nature (mountains, herbs, flowers and shepherds life). As well visible on the way the Papan water reservoir, that provides all Osh city residents with water and it is used for irrigation the agriculture of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The road is 100km about 3.5 hours to reach the Osh. The condition is dirty but not bad. The road goes along the Ak-Buura river.
