Kyrgyzstan, the land of nomads, offers unparalleled horseback riding adventures amidst breathtaking mountain landscapes. Where pastures meet peaks, horses are an integral part of local life, readily available for unforgettable tours. We specialize in crafting exceptional horseback riding experiences, from short day trips to multi-day expeditions, showcasing the diverse beauty of Kyrgyzstan.
**Southern Kyrgyzstan Horseback Riding Tours:**
Southern Kyrgyzstan offers dramatic landscapes, stunning lakes, and vast pastures, creating an ideal setting for exceptional horseback riding tours. A significant advantage of choosing the southern regions for your equestrian adventures is the relative scarcity of tourists during the peak season (July, August, September). In contrast, the northern areas of Kyrgyzstan often experience higher tourist traffic during these months, leading to crowded trails and fully booked tour operators. Opting for southern routes ensures a more serene and authentic experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.

Types of horses in Kyrgyzstan
For trekking or short trips, we rent horses from local herders. These are working horses, trained for everyday tasks. Some horse owners also keep strong, galloping horses for special events (festival, Kok-Boru games) but these horses are usually not rented for general riding.
Since our horses come from different owners, they have varying saddles, personalities, and habits. Our experienced horse guides are familiar with each horse and can assist in handling them.
Getting Started
If you have no prior experience, we recommend starting with short instructional videos or guides on how to control, stop, and ride a horse. Begin with a short ride on flat terrain with no steep ascents or descents. In other words, choose an easy route.
Our team offers horseback riding tours suitable for beginners and experienced riders, all accompanied by our skilled horse guides.
Important Horse Riding Tips
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride, keep these key tips in mind:
- Securing Your Horse – Our horses are tied to a rope and anchor when stopped. If you dismount, hold the rope until your guide secures the anchor in the ground—or do it yourself—to prevent the horse from wandering off.
- Handling While Riding – Be extra cautious when taking photos, filming, or adjusting clothing while on horseback, as sudden movements may startle the horse.
- Encouraging Movement – If your horse is moving too slowly or not responding, loosen your grip on the bridle and say «CHO» or lightly kick its sides with the stirrups. If needed, repeat the kick 3-4 times with more pressure.
- Stopping the Horse – To stop, firmly pull the bridle toward yourself without issuing any verbal commands. Horses respond more to physical cues than words.
- Maintaining Balance – Always keep your balance while riding. Horses may react unexpectedly to birds, windblown objects, or sudden noises.
- Avoid Feeding After Sweating – Let the horse rest and cool down before giving it food.
- Wear Proper Clothing – Avoid wearing shorts, as stirrups can cause discomfort and injuries to your legs.
- Approach with Caution – Do not approach a horse at night or early in the morning without the horseman’s permission, as some horses may resist being caught by anyone other than their owner.
- Controlling Stallions – Our horses are he for riding, but if a male horse (stallion) meet female horses (mares), it may try to approach them. If this happens, control the horse by firmly pulling the bridle to the opposite side while kicking its sides to redirect it.
