3 Days Osh — Tulpar-Kol — Osh

The Pamir-Alay Mountains, the second largest mountain range in the Kyrgyz Republic, are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes and historical significance. A portion of the ancient Silk Road once passed through the Pamir-Alay, adding to its allure.

Among the most stunning and sought-after areas in the Pamir-Alay Mountains is the Lenin Peak region, a popular destination for climbers due to its dramatic beauty. One of the most spectacular sites between the Alay and Chong Alay regions is Tulpar Kol Lake, located at the base of Lenin Peak. This pristine lake, situated at an altitude of 3,500 meters in southern Kyrgyzstan, captivates travelers with its diverse natural surroundings, offering a serene retreat and an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

What to bring ( with you):

Please bring a warm jacket and a hat/beanie for cold or windy weather.

At the same time, it can sometimes get very hot, because mountain weather is known to change quickly. So it’s important to have a light layer as well (for example, a thin shirt or a breathable top).

The months July-September are generally part of the hot season. In Osh, temperatures can reach up to +40°C, while in the mountains it is usually around +15 to +20°C, with a dry climate. Morning and evening it gets sharply cool temperature.

At the camps, meals and bedding (blankets/sleeping gear) are provided, so you don’t need to carry heavy bags. Most of your luggage can be left safely at your accommodation in Osh, or you can store it at our office in Osh Destination if you prefer.

Details

Osh | Sary-Mogol | Tulpar-Kol | Lenin Peak Viewpoint

In the morning, depart from Osh by vehicle. The journey takes approximately 4–5 hours, passing through scenic mountain roads. Along the way, we make short stops in Chiyrchyk and Uch-Tobo, as well as at several picturesque spots for photo opportunities.

We also stop at the top of Taldyk Pass, where you can enjoy the fresh high-altitude air, take a short break, and capture panoramic photographs. Afterward, we continue driving toward Tulpar-Kol, stopping in Sary-Mogol village for lunch.

After lunch, we proceed to Tulpar-Kol Lake, where we check in at the yurt camp. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake for about one hour, followed by a short hike to a nearby panoramic viewpoint offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

This concludes the program of the first day.

One-Day Tours from Tulpar-Kol Yurt Camp

Several one-day hiking options are available from the Tulpar-Kol yurt camp. These excursions should be confirmed upon arrival on the first day, either with the guide or with the camp office manager, depending on availability and weather conditions. After choosing one of the above routes, the hike will be conducted together with a guide, ensuring safety and a well-organized experience.

1. Tulpar-Kol– Lenin Peak Viewpoint – Tulpar-Kol

A scenic hike toward the viewpoint of Lenin Peak, offering spectacular mountain views in short time (3km one side). Altitude of the last view point is 3800 and recommended hiking until 3600m.

  • Duration: 3–4 hours (round trip).
  • Difficulty: Moderate.

2. Tulpar-Kol– Mountaineers’ Base Camp / Lukovaya Meadow.

Hike to the climbers’ base camp (3,600 m) with optional extension to Lukovaya Meadow (3,870 m).

Duration: ~4+ hours.

Difficulty: Moderate to challenging.

Requirements: Good physical condition.

The base camp hosts over 10 tour camps, mostly tents. Lenin Peak is partially visible from here (left side only). For a full view, a short trek to the left side of the Achyk-Tash River is recommended (Tulpar → Lenin Peak viewpoint → Tulpar-Kol).

3. High Pass Trek (Tulpar-Kol to Travelers' Pass).

Distance: ~14km round trip.

Duration: 6–8 hours.

Difficulty: Moderate to challenging.

Description:

This trail takes you through alpine meadows and ascends to the Travelers' Pass, offering breathtaking views of the whole view of Lenin Peak. The high altitude and steep sections make this hike more challenging but rewarding.

Travelers Pass (Kyzyl-Bel Pass)

  • Travelers Pass is a name commonly used by tourists and mountaineers. The original local name of the pass is Kyzyl-Bell (Kyzyl-Ashuu), which means “Red Pass.” It was given this name by local people because the soil and rocks of the saddle-shaped pass have a distinctive red color.
  • Kyzyl-Bel Pass is located on the route toward Lenin Peak, approximately 6 km from the Mountaineers’ Base Camp and 8.5 km from Tulpar-Kol Lake. The elevation of the pass is 4,120 meters, while the nearby viewpoint offering a full panoramic view of Lenin Peak reaches an altitude of 4,250 meters.

4. Top Panorama of Tulpar-Kol lakes.

  • Distance: ~9km round trip (varies depending on the exact trail).
  • Duration: 4-5 hours.
  • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging (due to steep sections and high altitude).

Requires very good physical condition; altitude effects may occur.

Description:

Pik Panorama (Top Panorama) is located on the southern side of Tulpar-Kol, on the left side of the route when approaching from the camp. The name was given by СВT Tulpar Yurt Camp, and in recent years this viewpoint has become increasingly popular among tourists.

From the summit, a wide panoramic view of numerous alpine lakes opens up. There are more than 40 small glacial lakes visible from this area, which is why the viewpoint is commonly referred to as the “40 Lakes” panorama.

The main viewpoint, where the lakes are fully visible, is located at an altitude of approximately 4,100 meters.

5. Tulpar-Kol to Tuyuk Canyon - Tulpar-Kol.

The route from Tulpar-Kol Lake to Tuyuk Canyon is a hidden gem for trekkers in the Alay Valley. This trail not only offers solitude and pristine landscapes but also provides some of the best views of Peak Estonia (6,202 m)

Distance: ~16– km round trip, depending on the exact viewpoint you aim for in Tuyuk Canyon.

Duration: Full-day hike (5–7 hours round trip).

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate.

Trail to Tuyuk Canyon:

The terrain transitions from grassy slopes to rocky paths as you enter Tuyuk Canyon.

The canyon narrows, revealing dramatic cliffs and a striking contrast of red and gray rocks.

Nomadic Culture: During summer, you might pass herders and yurts, offering opportunities for cultural interaction and especially suitable for families and travelers with children.

Horse riding is available to Tuyuk canyon by pre-booking.

Return to Osh from Tulpar-Kol.

Beautiful views along the way, several photo stops at the Taldyk Pass (3,600 m), Uch-Tobo, and other places. The distance is 245 km, travel time is 4-5 hours. Estimated arrival time in Osh is around 1:00 PM.
