After crossing the Sarazm border from Uzbekistan, you arrive in the ancient city of Panjakent — a historical gem of Tajikistan located near the border with Uzbekistan. Panjakent was once a vibrant Sogdian city during the 5th to 8th centuries. The city is renowned for its archaeological ruins:
Zoroastrian temples, residential complexes, and an ancient citadel.
You’ll visit the Museum of Ancient Panjakent, where well-preserved murals, artifacts, and relics paint a vivid picture of Sogdian life. A guided walk through the old town brings the past to life.
Overnight stay in a local guesthouse in Panjakent.
After breakfast, drive into the stunning Fann Mountains to explore the Seven Lakes of Haftkul — a cascade of mountain lakes, each with its own unique shape, size, and mesmerizing color. The journey begins with an off-road drive, followed by light to moderate hiking.
The lakes you'll visit include: Nezamin (Unexpected), Soy, Gushor, Nofin, Khurdak, Marguzor, and Hazorchashma — the last and largest lake.
Overnight camping by the shore of the 7th lake. Tents provided; enjoy a peaceful evening under the stars.
Today, you head to Artuch Base Camp, a well-established alpine lodge that serves as the starting point for many treks in the Fann Mountains. The camp is nestled among towering peaks and alpine meadows, offering tranquility and breathtaking views.
Spend the day relaxing or preparing for the next trek. Optional short hikes around the area.
Overnight in a cozy guesthouse at Artuch.
Begin an unforgettable trek to the Alaudin Lakes, considered among the most picturesque mountain lakes in Central Asia. Situated at an elevation of over 2,700 meters, these turquoise lakes reflect the snow-capped peaks above them, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
The hike from Artuch takes around 5–6 hours, passing through rugged terrain, alpine flora, and majestic landscapes.
Optional overnight at a campsite or basic shelter near the lakes.
Drive to the legendary Lake Iskanderkul, named after Alexander the Great. According to legend, Alexander passed through these mountains during his eastern campaigns.
The lake, framed by dramatic cliffs and steep valleys, is one of Tajikistan’s most iconic natural landmarks. Nearby, visit the Fann Waterfall, often dubbed the "Niagara of the Fann Mountains."
Take a short walk to panoramic viewpoints and enjoy a picnic by the lake.
Overnight stay in a lakeside guesthouse or eco-lodge.
Arrive in Dushanbe, the vibrant capital of Tajikistan. A city where tradition meets modernity, Dushanbe offers a cultural mosaic shaped by Persian, Soviet, and Central Asian influences.
City tour highlights:
Overnight stay in a centrally located hotel.
Today’s scenic drive takes you southward through the Kulob region, passing ancient fortresses, mosques, and villages steeped in history. The road snakes along river valleys and mountain slopes, offering incredible photo stops.
Arrive in Kalai-Khumb, a small town nestled by the Panj River — the natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Overnight in a guesthouse or small hotel.
Optional route via Nurek — home to one of the world's tallest dams — and through alpine passes and dense forest landscapes. This less-traveled road gives a deeper sense of Tajikistan's diverse geography and remote beauty.
Overnight in Kalai-Khumb.
Continue to Rushan, a gateway village to the majestic Bartang Valley. From Rushan, your driver will drop you at a footbridge over the river leading into the Jizev Gorge.
