Details

This short cycling adventure explores the beautiful mountain valleys south of Osh, combining scenic drives, remote gravel cycling routes, and peaceful alpine pastures. The route passes through traditional villages, narrow mountain gorges, and highland summer pastures surrounded by juniper forests and dramatic landscapes of the Alay Mountains.

Departure from Osh in the morning. The journey follows the famous Osh–Sary-Tash road (M41 Pamir Highway) toward the mountains. After reaching Murdash village, the route continues through the village and into a narrow and very scenic mountain gorge.

The road winds through beautiful landscapes surrounded by juniper forests and alpine mountains until reaching the summer pasture area called Uch-Chat. This peaceful place is a popular summer camping area where local shepherds bring their livestock during the warm season.

Here you can relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and prepare for the cycling stage of the next day.

• Transfer: ~125 km / ~3 hours via Osh–Sary-Tash (M41)

• Accommodation: Uch-Chat camp (yurt camp or tents)

After breakfast, a short vehicle transfer (~10 km) brings the riders to the upper section of Kosh-Bel Pass. From this point the cycling stage begins.

The route descends through remote valleys and continues into the impressive Chal-Kuyruk Gorge, one of the most scenic and wild gorges in the region. The trail follows gravel roads and mountain tracks surrounded by high cliffs and untouched landscapes.

The day ends in the peaceful summer pastures of Depshe, where we set up camp for the night.

• Cycling distance: ~28 km

• Elevation: +1,132 m / –1,307 m

• Estimated riding time: ~6 hours

• Terrain: gravel roads, mountain tracks, remote gorge sections

• Overnight: camping in tents (Depshe pastures)

After breakfast, continue cycling toward Kara-Kur village through wide open mountain valleys with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

As the route approaches Kara-Kur village, the trail becomes very steep with long downhill sections. Cyclists should be careful on these descents.

Important safety note:

Please avoid holding the brakes continuously during long descents, as this may cause the brakes to overheat and lose effectiveness. If you are not confident riding down steep sections, it is recommended to get off the bike and walk for safety until the terrain becomes easier.Another recommended technique is to brake intermittently (short braking intervals) instead of holding the brakes constantly while descending.

After reaching Kara-Kur village, the cycling stage finishes. Lunch will be served at a local guesthouse, where you can relax before the return transfer to Osh.

• Cycling distance: ~14 km

• Elevation: +1,184 m / –2,875 m

• Estimated riding time: ~3 hours

• Transfer to Osh: ~90 km / ~3 hours
